UPDATE (6/10): The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was killed in the crash as Fred Macario Echavarria, 29, of Clovis.

UPDATE (6/9): Alcohol was a factor in the crash on Sunday, according to the CHP.

The department said a silver Nissan Sentra had entered a cordoned-off construction zone off Highway 99 and Highway 204. The vehicle was driving north on Highway 204. The Nissan collided head-on with an unoccupied construction equipment.

The driver suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and, according to the CHP, was pronounced dead on site.

(6/6): BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A person was found dead Sunday in a vehicle that crashed into a construction site on Highway 99 near Golden State Avenue.

It’s unclear when the collision might have occurred, but the vehicle – a gray or silver sedan – was reported in the construction site in the southbound lanes on Highway 99 north of the Golden State Avenue offramp shortly after 6:45 a.m., according to the CHP Information page on traffic accidents.

At this point there were no workers in the construction zone.
