Licenses for premises are pending for the ground floor, basement and first floors of 55 Great Portland Street.

The Crown Estate has applied for two new licenses from Westminster Council for premises at 55 Great Portland Street, Fitzrovia.

The applicant applies for permission for a range of licensable activities on the ground floor and in the basement, including selling alcohol Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11.30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight and noon until 10.30 a.m. on Sunday afternoons.

On the first floor they ask for permission to sell alcohol from Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11.30 p.m., Friday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 12 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.

Both applications apply to shadow licenses. The Westminster Council Licensing Policy Statement explains that this type of application is typically made by the landlord of the premises where the licensee is the tenant. “In many cases, the landlord is looking for a“ shadow license ”on the same or similar terms as the existing license.” This second license enables the continuity of licensable activities if the first license expires or is no longer valid. With a current location license, the value of a property is retained in favor of the landlord.
