The Bronx Panthers from Belmont kicked off registration day with football matches on Saturday. However, the team has already suffered a huge loss.

Their equipment shed full of banners, shoulder pads and more than 200 helmets was broken into, destroyed and cleared.

Shawn Godboat, who heads the team, says he and trainer Nathan Collins haven’t opened the shed in over a year since the team was down due to the pandemic. He says they discovered the break-in last month.

Godboat and Collins say funding always helps, but they’re mostly looking for equipment donations.

They say the kids share helmets but can’t anymore due to COVID-19.

Police say they are still investigating the incident.
